Flurry of Thanks

I decided to make some thank you cards, because we encourage our boys to write thank yous to everyone who give them Christmas presents.  I made a card very similar to this one at Kim's last year.  I love using a 6 x 6 piece of paper for the card base.  Score it at 3 inches and you have a 3 x 6 card that fits right into the small office envelopes.  I got four card bases out of one 12 x 12 sheet of cardstock.  I used irridescent ice on the snowflake and remembered how much I love that product.

I used Night of Navy craft ink and sprinkled irridescent ice over it.  Then I set it with my heat gun. Love it!  Don't ya love how the stamp fits perfectly in this punch?  You know, I do!

You can see it sparkle just a little on the close-up.  Oh, how pretty it makes this snowflake glitter.

Materials used are stampin’ up! Unless noted
Stamps: simple snowflake, all holidays
Paper: blue (other), whisper white, night of navy
Ink: night of navy craft, night of navy classic

This is my last post for a little while.  I have a lot of things to get ready for the holidays, so I am taking a little vacation from my blog.  I hope to see you back here soon.

Christmas Challenge - Guest DT

We had a FUN week!  My mom, nieces and nephews went home yesterday and we miss them already.  It was so nice to see them and play every day while they were here.

Today, I am honored to be a guest designer for Sparkle's Christmas Challenge.  I need to get back to playing along with her challenges every week.  Maybe this is the nudge I need to get organized in order to play along every week.  For this weeks challenge, we have a color combo for you.  The combo is deep red, black and cream/vanilla.  Here is a sneak peak of my card.  Please visit Sparkle's Christmas Challenge site to see what I created for this challenge:

Mr. & Mrs.

Wow!  We had an exciting Saturday!  I left to meet someone about scrapbooking and got a call from my husband that Tanner (our youngest) hit his chin on the diving board doing a cartwheel off the board and needed stitches.  I just got to my destination (1:30 p.m.), so I couldn't leave.  I told him to take Tanner to Urgent Care and I would be home as soon as possible.  Urgent Care gave him four options and he wanted to know what I thought we should do.  I told him to pick the option that would leave the littlest scar.  He decided from their suggestion to take him to Children's Hospital to see what they thought.  I was coming home at this time and decided to pick them up and head to the ER.  This was around 2:30 p.m.  I had a wedding I was supposed to go to at 3:30 p.m. and knew I wasn't going to make that.

Once we got to the ER, we went through all the options again...1) do nothing (biggest scar), 2) butterfly (second biggest scar and not good for active boy), 3) glue (smaller scar and not the best for active boy) and 4) stitches (smallest scar and best for active boy).  My vote was stitches and the doctor agreed, so that is what he received...THREE STITCHES and we were home at 4:30 p.m.  Missed the wedding, but had time to get ready to go to the reception at 6 p.m.

Before the accident, Seth was building a shed we purchased from Sam's club in our backyard that had to be finished that night, since it was going to storm and it would probably knock down what he built and ruin part of it.  The walls were up with no doors and the roof needed to be built and put up before it rained.  Seth wanted to go with us to the reception, but knew he needed to continue working on the shed.  Finally, I said get showered and go with us.  We will all help when we get home to get the shed built before it rains around 1 a.m. (that is what the weather site reported on the internet).

We went to the reception, and I saw friends I hadn't seen for three years.  We had a great meal, CAKE (yummy) and wonderful company.  We got home at 8: 30 p.m. and started on the shed with about one hour of daylight left.  We worked together and got the shed done at midnight with flashlights in hand.  The boys helped too.  All of us got to bed around 1 a.m. and fell asleep quickly.  I woke up due to the storm at 2 a.m. and look out at our shed standing tall and all enclosed.  YAY!  We did it!  Whew!

Here is Tanner right after he got his stitches.  He loved the blue camouflage bandage:

Here is the card I made on Friday (thank God I decided to create a day early) for the bride and groom:

I got this card idea from page 2 of the new SU! Idea Book & Catalog.  I knew when I saw that card I wanted to make one similar.  I used retired paper from SU!  In addition, I used the All Holidays stamp set for the Mr. & Mrs. sentiment.  Last but not least, I used the following for texturing the hearts punched with the XL Full Heart punch:  Square Lattice Impressions folder, Vintage Wallpaper impressions folder, Petals-a-Plenty impressions folder and the crimper.

HFD

I didn't have much time to create this weekend; however, I did go over to my friend, Kim's house on Sunday and create with her.  This card is perfect for my DH to give his dad.  My FIL always helps us with our renovation projects, so this set is great.

This card goes well with the little candy bar wrapper I showed you last week.

Materials used are stampin’ up! Unless noted
Stamps: totally tool, all holidays, sanded
Paper: whisper white, sage shadow, chocolate chip
Ink: sage shadow, chocolate chip, black, basic gray, really rust
Accessories: close to cocoa marker, chocolate chip marker, silver foil smooch
Punches: none
Techniques: sponging, smooch spritz

My Dad's card

My father LOVES golf.  I am so happy he has a hobby, since he has retired.  He owed his own business in construction and worked his bum off until 65.  He loved his job, which helped the fact he worked long hours.  We appreciated all his hard work for us.  I am so happy he is enjoying retirement, so I wanted to make him a card that reflects what he likes to do.

I got this idea from Kim Bennett.  We will be making this card at club this month.

I was hoping the detail on the golf ball would show up.  It did when I took a close-up.

Don't ya just love how it looks like a golf ball?  Love it!  The tee is from the stamp set, On a Pedestal.  Turn the cupcake holder upside down and cover it with grass.  Another way to use your stamps outside of the box.  This is the idea I got from Kim and the golf ball.  The dimples in the golf ball were made with Backgrounds 1 Textured Plates on glossy white cardstock.

Materials used are stampin’ up! Unless noted
Stamps: On a pedestal, all holidays
Paper: kraft, real red, glorious green, basic brown, glossy white cardstock, bashful blue, patterns pack II and III (hostess level 1)
Ink: real red, glorious green, basic brown, bashful blue
Accessories: backgrounds 1 textured plates, dimensionals, scissors, mat pack, paper piercing tool, real red brads

Window Sheet Inking Tutorial

First, I have to share a conversation we had at the breakfast table yesterday.  Tanner and Tate were eating breakfast while I was cleaning the kitchen.  Tanner announced he had sacks.  Tate and I said, "sacks"?  Tanner said, "I was so tired last night I had sacks under my eyes."  HAHA!  Now, we use the term sacks instead of bags and laugh every time.

I finally got my tutorial to publish today.  For some reason, my computer keeps acting up when I edit my tutorials and publish them in order to upload to YouTube.  I think I have figured out how to get around "the bug".  I know, I know...all of you MAC users will say, "Get a MAC"!  My nephew, Jacob told me that when I asked him for help.  It is on my wish list, but I don't want to spend money on a new laptop yet.

When I made this card, I had some requests to do a tutorial.  I made a couple of changes to the original card, so we can make it at club next month.  I decided to use Happy Mother's Day, so I would have my card ready for my mom.  Mom...Close your eyes for this one!

Enjoy the tutorial:
