Best Fishes

Here is a card I made for the color challenge on Mommy Scraps. I took her theme and "awesome" birthday sentiment and made one of my own. In addition, I had inspiration from Jeanne's front flip card she made using the D'Vine Swirl cuttlebug and fish theme. This one is a little different than the usual card I make. It took me a little out of my comfort zone, which (I guess) is a good thing.

I mainly used the following CTMH colors: breeze, ocean, orange, citrus leaf. I sponged the bottom part of the card in cocoa, chocolate and desert sand to make the bottom of the ocean or aquarium (whichever you prefer). I used the June stamp of the month, With Love, for the ocean plants, etc. I love how other CTMH consultants use this flower set for other themes. In addition, I sponged the breeze cardstock with breeze and ocean ink for the water. After using the cuttlebug folder, I highlighted some of the waves with my white gel pen. I hope you like this one!

I finished this card with eyelets and orange sassy strands. Wow! I hardly ever use eyelets any more. I had the perfect color to go with the ocean cardstock in my never-ending stash. LOL! AND I got to use my crop-a-dile. YAY!

I'm Hooked

Okay, here is the last layout I finished over the past week. I am out of layouts now and have to go back to the creating board.

The boys have the best of both worlds. They get to go fishing with Grandpa B and golfing with Grandpa A. Here they are having fun fishing with Grandpa B.

Paper - Laid Back Level 2

Stamp Sets - Outdoor Trek; Hook, Line and Sinker, Beauty Seen (retired), Gone Fishing (retired)

Colors - autumn terracotta textured (and the reverse side which is a lighter orange), dutch blue, olive, white daisy

Embellishments - autumn terracotta photo clips, autumn terracotta ribbon, autumn terracotta brads, colonial white brads, extra large copper eyelets (non-CTMH), natural hemp, coluzzle tags

Technique Tuesday - Sanding

Sanding is an easy technique and is popular these days. It is all about distressing and this is a good one, especially with the new sanding tools that CTMH carries in their 2007 fall idea book. This 6 x 6 layout was created by Linda Shores, a fellow CTMH Independent Consultant. She did a great job showing the different ways to sand cardstock. Here are her directions:

Sanding

Give your piece a time worn look. Works best with white core cardstock. Lightly sand with sandpaper, wire brush, steel wool, sanding block or emery board.

Different sanding techniques

1. Sand edges
2. Sand all over in one direction
3. Sand all over in two directions for a linen look
4. Sand over textured items such as a spiral clip, screen, stamp or button
   

I used the sanding technique on both the cardstock and textured cardstock on this card. I really like the look of sanding textured cardstock.

My FIL's birthday is not until October, but I have his card made already. He loves fishing, so I always get to use my fishing stamp sets for him. I started out with a piece of 6 x 6 topiary cardstock and just kept adding layers. Here are the other products I used:

Paper - autumn terracotta and colonial white cardstock, autumn terracotta textured cardstock, and rustic trail paper pack.

Stamp sets - hook, line and sinker; solo r, solo f, and happy day.

Ink - desert sand, olive, autumn terracotta, cocoa, and topiary.

Accessories - designer ribbon rounds, pewter brads, pewter bigger brads, sanding block, and concave punch.

Edit to post: I checked the comments under the blog candy post and Beth just left a comment about sand paper being her favorite tool. Wow! Great minds think alike. I can't believe she just left that comment when I was posting this technique.

Gone Fishing

Spring is here and school is almost out, which means it is fishing time around here. My father-in-law loves fishing, so I made him this card for his birthday. It is a pretty simple design that I used from the Originals Card Confidence Program. This is my card bible when I want to make a card and don't feel like designing it from scratch.

I used Hook, Line and Sinker and Rustic Trail Level 2 paper packet and Olive and Goldrush cardstock. In addition, I used an Autumn Terracotta photo clip from the My Accents accessory kits. The inks used on this card are Olive, Holiday Red and Desert Sand. I hope you like it!

Oh, I almost forgot...Aimee loved the baby boy frame I made for her.

For the next few blogs I am going to focus on organization and give you a tour of my scrapbook room. I had someone ask me how I organize all my products and it gave me the idea to show you where I create my layouts, cards, etc. I love seeing the rooms in the scrapbook magazines, so I am going to showcase mine.
